Cyberpunch presents their debut single, “Riding Worms,” officially marking the beginning of the original journey of the São Paulo-based band formed in August 2024 by Netuno Balboa (vocals), Gabriel Henrique and Ruan Diego (guitars), Eduardo Zedu Domingues (bass), and Gabriel Gifoli (drums). With the aim of exploring heavy metal under thrash and gothic influences, the group brings together musicians of different generations and experiences who met through social media ads. “The first rehearsal happened even before any in-person meeting! However, the chemistry was immediate and transformed Cyberpunch into a band with intense songwriting and a professional attitude,” analyzes vocalist Netuno Balboa.
Cyberpunch’s lyrical universe addresses science fiction and themes inspired by works such as Dune and Mad Max, without being limited to these references. The lyrics use metaphors to discuss contemporary conflicts, reflecting issues such as class struggle, colonialism, ecology, and geopolitical tensions. The group has eight completed compositions for their debut album, “Chromefall,” scheduled for release in May 2026. Among them is the so-called ‘Mad Max Trilogy,’ consisting of three tracks set in that scenario.
“Riding Worms,” recorded at The Bunker Studio (São Paulo) and produced by Alex Marras and Gabriel Guedes Gois, who also handled the sound engineering, symbolizes the official beginning of this narrative. The song, mixed at Alex Marras Studios in Nottingham (UK), uses the imagery of the giant sandworms from Dune as a metaphor for cycles of marginalization that imprison vulnerable people and consume opportunities and identity. “The worm takes the form of the Ouroboros, a symbol of infinite cycles and self-destruction, connecting fantasy and social critique,” explains Netuno, who explores vocal melodies inspired by Arab traditions from Southern Spain and North Africa.

The influences range from names like Metallica and Iron Maiden, as well as contemporary references such as Ghost, Powerwolf, Rammstein and Avenged Sevenfold, and elements from gothic music. “In the case of ‘Riding Worms’, the instrumental is influenced by Judas Priest and Avenged Sevenfold, while the synths are based on the work of Powerwolf,” explains Netuno.
The performances feature theatrical elements, steampunk props, and performances that enhance the post-apocalyptic atmosphere of the lyrics. Netuno plays the character Caverox, the Wasteland Skull, whose mask is removed mid-show in a dramatic scene designed to reinforce the theatricality.
